GFCNI Awards ceremony

The Doris Mollel Foundation, a member of the GFCNI network and representative on its Parent and Patient Advisory Board, has been recognized by the Global Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (GFCNI) at its 2026 Parent and Patient Organizations Summit, held March 20–22 in Freising, Germany.

The Foundation received the award for its extraordinary advocacy work that led to the official recognition of World Prematurity Day by the World Health Assembly, which is an achievement for the global newborn health community. DMF's sustained engagement with the Government of Tanzania and international health bodies was instrumental in elevating prematurity to the WHO's calendar of annual health observances.

The summit brought together 70 participants from 36 parent and patient organizations across 32 countries to share experiences and collaborate on improving care for babies born too soon or sick. The GFCNI awards ceremony recognized individuals and organizations driving lasting change in the lives of preterm and sick newborns and their families.
